Fiberglass Mat

Fiberglass mat (often called Chopped Strand Mat or CSM) is a non-woven reinforcement made of randomly dispersed glass fibers held together by a binder. It is highly popular for DIY and industrial repairs due to its affordability, ease of shaping, and ability to build thickness quickly.

How It Works & Key Properties
Random Orientation: Unlike woven cloth, the randomly oriented fibers give the mat equal strength and stiffness in all directions.

Resin Compatibility: It is specifically designed for use with polyester or vinylester resins. The styrene in these resins breaks down the mat's binder, allowing the fibers to become pliable and conform easily to complex curves and corners.

Not for Epoxy: Standard fiberglass mat is not compatible with epoxy resin, as epoxy lacks the necessary chemistry to dissolve the mat's binder.
